Who We Are

Gosaidihi Astha Welfare Society is a community-based development organization registered in 2008. It was founded by a group of committed rural social workers from the remote Junglemahal region of Bankura district, West Bengal. Driven by a shared vision of inclusive development, the organization works to uplift underserved communities, with a special focus on tribal populations. Gosaidihi Astha Welfare Society is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to quality education, generating sustainable livelihoods through agriculture and skill development initiatives, and promoting accessible healthcare at the community level.
The organization also emphasizes the empowerment of marginalized groups by fostering equal access to opportunities and raising awareness on rights and entitlements. Through its grassroots efforts, Gosaidihi Astha Welfare Society strives to create resilient, self-reliant communities where every individual has the chance to lead a dignified life.

What We Do

— Tribal Community Development

The Tribal Development Fund (TDF) Project is a flagship initiative implemented with the support of NABARD, Government of India, aiming to uplift the socio-economic standards of 500 tribal families.

— Agriculture

Our agriculture development initiatives in Bankura District are designed to empower marginalized communities, enhance sustainable farming practices, promote nutrition security, and ensure better livelihood opportunities. 

— Skill development

As part of our commitment to empowering women and promoting sustainable livelihoods, GAWS has launched a Tailoring Training Program for Self-Help Group (SHG) members in various villages of Bankura District.

— Health and Nutrition

Malnutrition is a significant concern in the villages of Bankura District, where common diseases such as Diarrhea, Dysentery, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Intestinal Worms persist.

— Crafts and Artisans

GAWS is committed to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Bankura, a district renowned for its traditional handicrafts and artisan communities.

From Barren Land to Blossoming Orchard: Madhabi's Journey to Self-Reliance

Madhabi Soren, a tribal woman from Parshla village, transformed her barren land into a thriving mango orchard through GAWS’ TDF support. With intercropping and kitchen gardening, she now earns a steady income and feeds her family nutritious food. Her journey from wage labor to proud orchard owner inspires many in her village.

Reviving Tradition, Creating Livelihoods: Ramesh Mahato’s Artisan Success Story

Ramesh Mahato, a traditional terracotta artisan from Bankura, received skill enhancement and marketing support through GAWS’ Handloom and Craft initiative. His designs now reach urban markets, doubling his income. Ramesh has since trained five local youth, helping preserve cultural heritage while creating livelihoods.
